Satoshi Kon, a highly acclaimed Japanese anime director, died suddenly of cancer on Monday evening, said UK Anime Network News. He was 47.
Kon is best known for being the director of Perfect Blue, Pakrika, Millennium Actress, and Tokyo Godfathers. He made is debut as a director for the movie.
He became a Manga artist in the early 1990s, when worked on Roujin Z in 1991.
Before his death, he was working on a new feature Yume-Miru Kikai.
He was the receiver of the B-Movie Award from B-Movie Film Festival in 2000 (Perfect Blue), Best Animation Film of Fant-Asia Film Festival in 2001 (Perfect Blue), Mainichi Film Concours Award in 2004 (Tokyo Godfathers), Public's Choice Award of Montréal Festival of New Cinema in 2006 (Paprika), Feature Film Award of Newport Beach Film Festival in 2007 (Paprika).
