PAOLI, Pa. (AP) — Philadelphia broadcaster Hy Lit, whose career as a rock disc jockey on the city's airwaves spanned half a century, has died. He was 73.
Lit died Saturday at Paoli Hospital, said Main Line Health spokeswoman Frieda Schmidt, who declined to reveal the cause of death.
Lit worked for a decade at WIBG-AM and also worked at WOGL-FM and other stations. Known as "Hyski," he was also master of ceremonies at shows featuring performers including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and Elvis Presley, and he hosted popular weekly sock hops with teens.
Lit recently began operating an Internet station, hylitradio.com. He was inducted four years ago into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame.
He had Parkinson's disease and was a spokesman for those seeking a cure.
