Comedian Mitch Hedberg Diesposted 2005-03-31 13:57:32 by grendel
On his show today "Shock Jock" Howard Stern reported that comedian Mitch Hedberg has died.
According to a story in today's St. Paul Pioneer Press, comedian Mitch Hedberg died early Wednesday morning (March 30) at the age of 37. The St. Paul, MN, native apparently suffered a heart attack in a New Jersey hotel room, with his wife present.
Hedberg was best known for his dry, random observations on life, which combined with his "dude, i just got high before i walked out here" stage presence and his rock star appearance (imagine Kurt Cobain doing stand-up), made him a cult comic figure. Like master of mumbling monotone Steven Wright before him, Hedberg's forte was irreverant one-liners, and it was not uncommon for his audience to recite the jokes along with his stoned delivery.
After starring at Minneapolis' Acme Comedy Co. in the late '90s, Hedberg caught his big break appearing on a Comedy Central stand-up showcase. He went on to release two comedy albums in 2003, the live CD Strategic Grill Locations and the combined CD/DVD Mitch All Together, have his own special on Comedy Central and make numerous appearances on "Late Show with David Letterman" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." He was currently in the process of developing his own HBO special, which had been his dream accoomplishment.
