Just four months after the death of Big Star front man Alex Chilton, the legendary power pop band's original bassist, Andy Hummel, has passed away. Hummel died yesterday, July 19, after fighting cancer for two years, according to a MTV report. He was 59.

James Gammon, the gravel-voiced actor who played the manager of the Cleveland Indians in the 1980s comedy "Major League" and had a host of other movie and TV roles, has died. He was 70.

Tuli Kupferberg, a poet and singer who went from being a noted Beat to becoming, in his words, “the world’s oldest rock star” when he helped found the Fugs, the bawdy and politically pugnacious rock group, died on Monday in Manhattan. He was 86 and lived in Manhattan.

The Jamaican reggae artist Sugar Minott, who has died unexpectedly aged 54, enjoyed a prolific solo career during the 1970s and 80s, and worked with many of Jamaica's leading producers including Coxsone Dodd, Mikey Dread and Sly & Robbie. He also nurtured many younger artists through his Black Roots label and his company Youthman Promotion.

Bob Sheppard, whose elegant intonation as the public-address announcer at Yankee Stadium for more than half a century personified the image of Yankee grandeur, died Sunday at his home in Baldwin, on Long Island. He was 99. His death was confirmed by his son, Paul.
